Dan Hurst begun his racing career in 2001 at the age of eleven. His career started when his father, Trevor Hurst, bought him a Junior Mini Stock Car.
Over the years in the Junior Ministox class at Warton Stock Car Club, Dan grew in confidence and begun getting more competitive results each meeting. His first race win came in 2005 at the age of 15.
In 2006, Dan left Warton and joined Roosecote Raceway at Barrow. Although only staying a season at Roosecote Dan managed to get a handful of victories and ended the season in 2nd overall. This break from Warton helped to develop Dan’s driving ability and decision making, this was evident when he returned to Warton for the 2007 season in which he took a bunch of top-three finishes and plenty of silverware.
By the beginning of 2008 Dan was 17 and this meant he had to retire from the Junior Ministox class and move into something a little faster. This was the beginning of the “Senior Mini Years”. Senior Minis were similar to the Junior Ministox however contact was much more common and the 1000cc engine maximum had increased to a 1300cc engine maximum meaning a lot more grunt.
In his 2008 debut season, Dan managed to pull of a number of top-three finishes and a bunch of race wins which propelled him into 3rd position overall in the season championship.
